What is the Twitter Learning Analytics Dashboard?
The Twitter Learning Analytics Dashboard is an information dashboard designed for instructors who uses Twitter and have created a unique course hashtag for their class discussions. The dashboard allow instructors to see their students' Twitter class related discussions visually and in real-time. (For demonstration purposes, this particular dashboard features statistics and analysis of the #edchat (or "education chat") hashtag discussion on Twitter.)
Why is this useful?
As social media take root in our society, more and more University instructors are incorporating platforms like Twitter into their classroom. However, very few of the current Learning Analytics (LA) systems and dashboards are able to process and visualize social media data for the purpose of instructional interventions and evaluation.
As a result, instructors who are using social media in the classroom have no easy way to assess their students learning progress or to use the data to adjust and improve their lessons in real time. This dashboard allows instructors to explore how their students create, share, and engage with teaching materials via Twitter as part of their learning activities.
Why am I seeing a "there have been no tweets" notice?
This error means that the dashboard was unable to find data on recent tweets. Try sending one using your hashtag - if it appears in your dashboard, things are working properly and new tweets will appear as they are posted. Otherwise, please contact your system administrator to ensure the installation was done properly.
